Transitions ⇔ VTI RespondSunsensors

Transition lenses have a very thin layer of photochromic* material bonded onto the front surface of the lens, thus giving an even density when activated.

There do exist some other photochromic* lenses that change colour throughout the entire thickness of the lens, they are cheaper to make but give a darker tint in thicker areas of the activated lens thus giving a slightly patchy appearance.

What are Transitions Lenses?

Transitions lenses are designed for daily use.

They offer all the benefits of clear lenses indoors and much more outdoors.

Transitions lenses automatically adapt to changing outdoor light conditions to help reduce glare and prevent eye fatigue.

They also preserve eye health as they block 100% of harmful UV rays.

What do Transitions Lenses Offer Me?

REDUCE GLARE

Direct sunlight and reflections can cause eye pain which leads to squinting and blurred vision.

Transitions lenses are the automatic anti-glare solution for your eyes as they rapidly adapt to outdoor light intensity.

They help your eyes adjust and improve contrast to ensure your vision is optimized.

RELIEVE EYE FATIGUE

Constant variations in light intensity throughout the day can leave your eyes feeling tired and sore.

Transitions lenses help reduce eye fatigue as they constantly adapt to outdoor light conditions allowing just the right amount of light to reach the eye. As a result your eyes feel more comfortable all day long.

PROTECT FROM UV RAYS

Without even knowing or feeling them, UV rays are present all year round.

As with your skin, your eyes also need protection from the invisible but damageable effects of UV rays.

Transitions lenses help preserve eye health as they block 100% of harmful UV rays.

They turn as dark as sunglasses by automatically adjusting their level of darkness based upon the amount of UV radiation.

Transitions Lenses block 100% of the sun's eye-damaging rays and reduce painful, discomforting glare.

Transitions lenses protect on cloudy days, sunny days, and everything in between-every day, year round-whenever invisible UV rays and visible glare are present.

Eyecare professionals agree with scientific evidence that exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays over time is harmful to the eyes, yet research shows that only 9% of people associate ultraviolet (UV) radiation with damage to their eyes-as compared to 82% who recognize the dangers of UV to their skin.

Transitions Optical, Inc. has developed the world's most advanced photochromic* lens technology.

Transitions lenses are the number one brand of photochromic* lenses recommended by eyecare professionals worldwide.

"Photochromic*" means that the lenses automatically change from clear to dark in the presence of ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

VTI Respond

VTI Respond Lenses

Respond Lenses lenses have photochromic material throughout the entire thickness of the lens, they are less expensive than transitions but give a darker tint in thicker areas of the activated lens, thus giving a slightly patchy appearance.

Our initial lab tests of this product have been very promising, the tensile strength has been found to be reasonable and because of the slightly higher index "1.56" they are a little thinner than true Transitions.

The biggest drawback seems to be that once activated they don't clear as completely as Transitions lenses, but they are thinner and less expensive.

Respond fast reacting UV response lenses are available in Grey or Brown and can be antireflection coated.

Sunsensors  1.56 Mid Index Sun Reacting Lenses

  • SunSensors®: versatile, ultra-light, fast-reacting plastic photochromic.
    • Made from high (1.56) index material for a "thin lens" advantage.
    • As dark as a sunglass lens outdoors, comfortably clear indoors.
    • Choice of color : Grey or Brown.
    • This in-mass photochromic material distributes photochromic molecules throughout the lens, allowing a consistent and effective light response for the life of the lens.
    • Available and affordable as single vision lenses and in top progressive lens designs from high-quality suppliers the world over.
    • Better-Performing Plastic Lenses
    • The result of years of research and development, the new Sunsensors Grey photochromic lenses are the product of highly sophisticated technologies. In its most basic form, a photochromic lens changes color because of a chemical reaction.
    • When someone wears photochromic lenses outside, Ultra Violet (UV) exposure causes the lenses to darken. Indoors, at night, or on cloudy days there isn't as much UV to cause the chemical reaction, so the lenses remain relatively clear.
    • Sunsensors have the photochromic molecules distributed evenly throughout the lens material.
    • In this revolutionary plastic lens, as UV degrades some molecules, others replace them, providing a longer lasting, more consistent color over the life of the prescription.
    • Corning SunSensors lenses darken to a uniform depth across the exposed surface of the lens, as a result,
    • SunSensors in high plus or minus powers can be finished and edged with no uneven darkening, typically referred to as "bulls-eye" or "raccooning."
